People refine their thoughts, removing unnecessary words until everything fits, which occasionally results in magic. And the artistic constraints of 140 characters forces people to be creative. This makes it relatively easy to catch up with an afternoon’s worth of tweets, assuming you’re not following too many people. Sure, screenshots of text editors and threads work around this, but for the most part Twitter is about short posts. While your uncle can rant all he wants on Facebook, Twitter users are forced to keep things brief. And with good reason: keeping posts short is the main thing that separates Twitter from other social networks. Twitter has changed a lot over the years, but the 140 character limit stays the same. Find things you like and you’ll hang out on the site more, clicking ads and otherwise helping Facebook remain the ever growing, media ecosystem dominating juggernaut it aspires to always be. Scroll more, and there’s a better chance you’ll find something you like. My guess: shorter posts keep people scrolling. Having said that, it seems like Facebook only ever makes changes if they think it will encourage users to spend more time on Facebook. They have yottabytes of information about how users interact with each other, and I have a couple screenshots and an animated GIF. In the end, the IPO suggests Twitter will be a major communications force and so a major way to communicate with customers, clients and partners for some time to come.I can’t explain why Facebook is doing this: it’s like bringing a Nerf gun to a tank battle. Of course, there is also the fear that, as with Facebook, Twitter may start charging for the social reach users once were able to obtain for free. The company has already introduced promoted and targeted tweets to allow brands, and sometimes unexpectedly customers, to have a greater voice. Twitter also announced plans to acquire MoPub, a mobile ad exchange startup, for $350 million earlier this year.Īll of this could theoretically offer small businesses more opportunity to target messages that reach their audiences effectively. Unfortunately, like Amazon, Sky News new app is just a web wrapper developed using Microsoft’s Westminster project. Of course, more investors mean the need for more profits, most probably through advertising, reports USA Today. Clearly, Twitter hasn’t waited for an IPO to start generating revenue in this area. Sky News has finally launched their new Windows 10 app. The new capitalization may even give the company the ability to invest in additional features that will improve the experience. And certainly, the stock offering would seem to be an indication that Twitter is here to stay. If you’re a small business person or entrepreneur using social media to market your business or network, you’ll go right on doing what you always have. But what does it mean for users, and more particularly small businesses? What the Twitter Stock IPO Means It’s fair to say the Twitter IPO has been highly anticipated. That would allow Twitter to raise about $1.8 billion in capital. Twitter says it hopes to sell 70,000,000 shares of its common stock at a price of $26 per share. Yesterday, the company announced that it had officially priced its IPO. Now the big day has arrived and Twitter stock is now available. Twitter began trading publicly on the New York Stock Exchange at 9:30 a.m. ![]()
